RVSM Implementation in Estonian Airspace

The objective of the RVSM*  project was to increase physical airspace capacity and provide more possibilities in separating aircraft vertically. The objective stemmed from the strategy set out in the ICAO Doc. 9574. 1000 feet separation minimum was applied between aircraft operating in the upper airspace (flight level FL290-FL410)

The project was implemented in cooperation with EUROCONTROL working group; it covered:

  • development of air traffic control and co-ordination procedures;
  • airspace reorganisation in accordance with the new procedures;
  • ATS staff training;
  • upgrade of the flight data processing system;
  • upgrade/modification of the ATM system.

The Reduced Vertical Separation Minima were introduced in January 2002.
