Free Route Airspace expands into the North Atlantic

On the 2nd of March the North-European Free Route Airspace expanded even more, when Bodø Oceanic FIR joined it, upon agreement with ICAO, and implemented Free Route Airspace flight planning rules within FL195-FL660. Since it is in the area of responsibility of Avinor, over the neutral (international) waters, the entry into the area and exit from it still take place via the established entry and exit points.

The next important step in the air traffic management in the Northern Europe is the 25th of May 2017 when the initially planned sixth part of NEFRA – Norwegian FIR – will join a continuous cross-border Free Route Airspace in the Northern Europe.
