Estonian ANS is a modern, rapidly developing company operating under the auspices of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications of the Republic of Estonia. It is a business entity, the major function of which is to provide quality services to air traffic in accordance with international standards as well as to ensure flight safety in Tallinn Flight Information Region. The sole owner of the company shares is the Republic of Estonia.
Our core activities are:
- Ensuring safety of air traffic in the assigned airspace;
- Provision of air traffic services;
- Airspace management and planning;
- Preparation, exchange and promulgation of aeronautical information;
- Coordination of search and rescue;
- Aviation-related consultancy services and expertise;
- Project management;
- Construction supervision
The key function is to manage both domestic and international air traffic in Tallinn TMA and Flight Information Region (it covers the airspace over Estonian territory and some assigned segments over the high seas). In plain language, air traffic management means organising air traffic into a safe, expeditious and smooth flow. The overwhelming part of the traffic handled by EANS is the overflights connecting West and East. We have almost 1000 different customers.
All our activities are governed by Estonian legislation, ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organisation) and EUROCONTROL regulations; they are certified by Estonian Civil Aviation Administration in accordance with the common requirements stated in the regulation nr 550/2004 of the European Parliament and Council and regulation nr 2069/2005 of European Commission; the certificate is a state warranty that the company is functioning in accordance with the established quality requirements.
To date, EANS has six departments: ATS, CNS/ATM, AIS, Development, Quality Assurance and Finance. The number of employees is approaching 150 - one third of them are air traffic controllers. Their professional training is provided by Estonian Aviation Academy (http://www.eava.ee/ ). Since this institution does not prepare radar controllers, it was decided to prepare controllers in the German Academy DFS (Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH) and in the ATS training centre of Czech Republic.
Our guiding principles are described in the mission.
